ICO
An initial coin offering, or ICO, is a method of raising money by selling newly created crypto tokens. A project may use the funds to build a blockchain service, application, or digital network. Unlike shares sold through an IPO, the tokens do not automatically give the buyer ownership in a company or a right to profits. Their purpose depends on the project. Some may provide access to a service, while others have voting or payment functions. A white paper may explain the idea, but it does not provide the same protection as an audited company prospectus.
ifo Business Climate Index
The ifo Business Climate Index measures how German companies view current business conditions and the months ahead. Each month, the ifo Institute surveys firms in manufacturing, services, trade, and construction. Their answers are combined into a headline index. A rise means companies became more positive or less negative overall. The survey also separates current conditions from expectations. Businesses may report that sales are still good today while becoming worried about future orders. This makes the index useful as an early view of business confidence before some official economic figures are available.
Illiquid market
In an illiquid market, there are not enough active buyers and sellers to complete trades easily. The difference between buying and selling prices may become wider, and a large order may move through several price levels. A share might show a selling price of $20, but only a small amount may be available there. Selling a larger position could require accepting $19.80 or less. Illiquidity is common in smaller markets, outside busy trading hours, and during periods of stress. The price shown on screen may therefore give only a limited picture of what a full order can actually receive.
Immaculate Disinflation
Immaculate disinflation describes a situation where inflation slows without causing a deep recession or a sharp increase in unemployment. Disinflation means that prices continue rising, but at a slower pace. It is not the same as deflation, where the overall price level falls. Higher interest rates normally reduce inflation by weakening demand, which can also hurt jobs and growth. The word “immaculate” is used when inflation improves while the wider economy remains surprisingly strong. It is an informal phrase, and economists may disagree over whether a particular period truly deserves the description.
Immediate or Cancel Order (IOC)
An Immediate or Cancel order tells the market to complete as much of an order as possible immediately and cancel the rest. A request to buy 1,000 shares may find only 600 available at acceptable prices. Those 600 can be purchased, while the remaining 400 disappear instead of waiting in the order book. An IOC order may also include a limit price, preventing purchases above the chosen maximum. It is useful when the trader values speed and does not want an unfilled amount to remain active after the first attempt.
Immutable
Immutable means that information cannot easily be changed after it has been recorded. On a blockchain, confirmed transactions are linked with earlier records and copied across many computers. Secretly changing an old transaction would require overcoming the network’s agreement process and rewriting connected data. This makes the history difficult to alter. Immutability does not mean that every blockchain application is perfect or permanent in every detail. Developers can sometimes update software, replace a smart contract, or add a new transaction that corrects an earlier mistake. The original record, however, normally remains visible.
