STARTRADER Delivers Emergency Relief to 300 Earthquake-Affected Families in the Philippines

STARTRADER Delivers Emergency Relief to 300 Earthquake-Affected Families in the Philippines

Aid initiative supports families in Sarangani Province following the 7.8-magnitude earthquake, reinforcing the importance of collective action during times of crisis.

When disaster strikes, recovery does not begin with rebuilding walls or restoring roads. It begins with people: families searching for safe shelter, parents trying to find clean water, children needing food, care, and comfort, and entire communities facing the difficult question of what comes next after the ground beneath them has changed everything.

Following the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Sarangani Province in the Philippines, STARTRADER, through its charitable arm STARCARES (formerly STAR Foundation), is delivering emergency relief to 300 affected families in Glan and Malapatan, two of the hardest-hit areas.

The initiative focuses on urgent, practical support for displaced families facing damaged homes, interrupted services, limited access to basic supplies, and the emotional weight of beginning again.

Standing With Sarangani in a Time of Urgent Need

The impact of the earthquake has been severe. Official reports confirm 38 fatalities, 478 injuries, and 4 people still missing. More than 3,100 homes were damaged, including 528 completely destroyed, while roads, bridges, schools, healthcare facilities, and public infrastructure also sustained extensive damage. Approximately 157,000 power consumers remain affected by electricity outages.

Behind these numbers are families whose daily lives changed in an instant. A damaged road can delay access to aid. A destroyed home can force a family into temporary shelter, or leave them without shelter at all. A power outage can affect communication, safety, medical access, and the ability to return to daily routines.

For many communities in Sarangani Province, the immediate challenge is not only rebuilding what was lost, but getting through the next day with enough food, water, medicine, and essential supplies.

Relief That Meets Immediate Human Needs

In coordination with local partners and government-supported relief channels, STARTRADER is distributing drinking water, food, hygiene kits, medicines, sleeping mats, blankets, and child care essentials to affected families.

Each item addresses an urgent need. Clean water and food support daily survival. Hygiene kits help reduce health risks in difficult conditions. Medicines provide basic care when healthcare access may be limited. Sleeping mats and blankets offer comfort and protection for families who have lost safe shelter. Child care essentials support the youngest and most vulnerable members of the community.

The goal is clear: to help families regain stability during the most difficult stage of recovery, while longer-term rebuilding efforts continue.

Why Coordinated Action Matters

Disaster response is never the work of one organisation alone. It depends on the combined effort of local communities, public institutions, private sector partners, volunteers, and relief networks.

Through this initiative, STARTRADER is joining broader relief efforts already underway in Sarangani Province. By working with local partners and established relief channels, the company aims to ensure support reaches affected families with urgency, care, and practical impact.

In moments like this, speed matters. So does coordination. Effective relief is not only about delivering supplies. It is about understanding where help is needed most and supporting communities in a way that respects their realities on the ground.

Bringing STAR, Delivering Care

Through STARCARES, recently rebranded from STAR Foundation under the vision “Bringing STAR, Delivering Care,” STARTRADER is providing practical relief to communities facing urgent need.

In Sarangani Province, this commitment is being translated into direct support for families whose homes, routines, and sense of safety have been disrupted. The initiative reflects STARTRADER’s belief that responsible growth goes beyond markets and platforms. It also means standing with communities in difficult moments and supporting people beyond the trading ecosystem.

Supporting Families Beyond the Emergency

While emergency relief is an immediate priority, recovery in Sarangani Province will take time. Families will need to rebuild homes, restore routines, return children to school, recover livelihoods, and regain a sense of safety.

For affected communities, the path forward will require continued support from many sides. Businesses, institutions, local organisations, and individuals all have a role to play in helping families rebuild with dignity, stability, and hope.

It is impossible to see the impact of this earthquake without being deeply moved by the challenges families face. Behind every damaged home and school are families determined to rebuild. We stand with them, not only with supplies, but with solidarity and the belief that recovery begins when people come together. We are proud to stand alongside local communities and partners in Sarangani Province.”

Peter Karsten, Chief Executive Officer, STARTRADER

As relief efforts continue, STARTRADER calls on businesses, institutions, and communities to support the wider recovery response and stand with the families of Sarangani Province.

Because in the aftermath of a disaster, care is not measured only by what is delivered. It is measured by how quickly people are reminded that they are not alone.
