Uptick rule

The uptick rule is connected to short selling, where shares are sold with the aim of buying them back later at a lower price. In the United States, the current alternative uptick rule is triggered when a stock falls by at least 10% from the previous day’s closing price. Once triggered, most short sales cannot be carried out at or below the current best bid. The restriction remains in place for the rest of that day and the following trading day. It does not ban short selling completely. Its aim is to reduce extra selling pressure during a sharp decline.

Uptrend

An uptrend is a period when a market forms higher highs and higher lows. Prices do not need to rise in a straight line. They may climb, pull back, and then rise again. The important point is that each main rally reaches above the previous peak and each pullback stays above the previous low. This structure shows that buyers have continued to support the market at increasingly higher levels. One strong day is not enough to create an uptrend. The pattern needs to form across several price swings. It may also look different on hourly, daily, and weekly charts.

Uranium

Uranium is a naturally occurring metal used mainly as fuel for nuclear power plants after it has been mined, processed, and enriched. Market prices often refer to uranium oxide concentrate, commonly called U3O8 or yellowcake. Nuclear utilities usually need a stable supply for many years, so much of the market operates through long-term contracts. A smaller spot market exists for nearer delivery. Prices can respond to mine closures, reactor demand, processing capacity, energy policy, and concerns about supply security. Most investors gain exposure through uranium producers, funds, or financial products rather than buying or storing the material directly.

Uruguay Peso (UYU)

The symbol $ does not always mean US dollars. In Uruguay, it is commonly used for the country’s own currency, the Uruguayan peso. Its international code is UYU, which prevents confusion when several dollar and peso currencies appear in the same document. The Central Bank of Uruguay issues the currency, and it is used for local wages, prices, taxes, and payments. A restaurant bill marked $1,500 in Montevideo would normally mean 1,500 Uruguayan pesos unless another currency is clearly stated. In international records, using UYU is safer and clearer than writing only the $ symbol.

US oil

US Oil and UK Oil normally follow different crude benchmarks. US Oil usually refers to West Texas Intermediate, known as WTI. It is an important benchmark for oil pricing in the United States and is quoted in US dollars per barrel. The main WTI futures contract uses Cushing, Oklahoma, as its delivery point. Prices may react to US inventories, refinery demand, weather, production, and pipeline conditions. On a retail platform, US Oil normally means a derivative linked to WTI. The trader is not usually purchasing physical oil or arranging for barrels to be delivered.

USD

The currency code for the United States dollar, the world’s most widely traded currency.
