White Paper
In finance and trading, a white paper is a detailed document that explains a project, product, technology, or investment idea in a structured and research-based way. It is commonly used to present a problem, explain the proposed solution, and show why that solution may have value.
In crypto, white papers are especially important. A blockchain or token project often publishes a white paper before launch to explain how the project works, its technology, tokenomics, roadmap, and purpose. For investors and traders, it can be an early source of information before deciding whether a project is credible or worth following.
However, a professional-looking white paper does not guarantee that a project is safe or legitimate. Traders should still check the team, feasibility, risks, roadmap, and transparency.
Example:
Before Bitcoin launched, Satoshi Nakamoto published the Bitcoin white paper, explaining a peer-to-peer digital cash system without banks. Today, if a new crypto project releases a white paper that clearly explains its use case, token supply, and development plan, traders may use it to better assess the project before investing.
Whitelist
A whitelist is a list of approved users, wallet addresses, or participants who are allowed to access a specific crypto event or feature. In simple terms, it means “approved access.”
In crypto, whitelists are commonly used for token sales, ICOs, IDOs, NFT mints, airdrops, and exchange withdrawals. If your wallet address is whitelisted, you may be allowed to buy tokens early, mint an NFT before the public sale, or withdraw funds only to trusted addresses.
Whitelisting helps projects reduce bots, fraud, and unauthorized activity. It can also reward loyal community members by giving them priority access. Some projects require users to complete tasks, join a community, hold certain tokens, or pass KYC checks before being added.
Example:
A new NFT project launches 5,000 NFTs. Before the public sale, it gives 1,000 active community members whitelist access. These users can mint first, often at a fixed or discounted price, before everyone else.
A whitelist does not guarantee profit. It only gives access or permission. Users should still research the project carefully before participating.
Wholesale Prices
Wholesale prices refer to the prices retailers pay when buying finished goods in bulk from producers or distributors before selling them to consumers at a markup. Because they reflect costs earlier in the supply chain, they are often watched as an early signal of inflation. If wholesale prices rise, consumer prices may follow.
A common measure of wholesale inflation is the Wholesale Price Index (WPI)—called the Producer Price Index (PPI) in the U.S. It tracks changes in wholesale prices over time and helps economists gauge inflationary pressure.
Example:
If a retailer buys coffee makers from a wholesaler for $40 each and sells them in-store for $65, then $40 is the wholesale price. If the wholesaler raises the price to $45 because of higher import costs, that may later lead to higher retail prices.
Wholesale prices can rise due to supply disruptions, tariffs, rising input costs, or geopolitical tensions. In financial markets, traders monitor wholesale price data because stronger-than-expected increases may influence inflation expectations, interest rates, and currency movements.
In short, wholesale prices offer an early look at cost pressures building in the economy before they reach consumers.
Wide bid-ask spread
The difference between the highest price a buyer is willing to pay for a product and the lowest price a seller is willing to accept.
