Inverse Head and Shoulders

An inverse head and shoulders is a chart pattern made from three lows. The middle low is the deepest and forms the head. The lows on both sides are the shoulders and usually stop at higher levels. A line across the recovery highs creates the neckline. The pattern is normally considered complete only when the price rises above that neckline. It may suggest that a downtrend is losing strength and buyers are taking control. The shoulders rarely match perfectly, and a move above the neckline can still fail and return to the earlier range.

Inverted Hammer

An inverted hammer is a candlestick with a small body near the bottom and a long upper shadow. It matters most when it appears after a decline. During the session, buyers pushed the price well above its opening area, although much of that gain disappeared before the close. This shows that buyers were able to challenge the sellers, even if they did not fully take control. A stronger following candle can add support to the possible reversal. The same shape after an uptrend has a different meaning, so its position on the chart is important.

Inverted Yield Curve

An inverted yield curve appears when short-term bonds offer higher yields than longer-term bonds. For example, the 2-year US Treasury yield may rise above the 10-year yield. This can happen when current interest rates are high but markets expect weaker growth and lower rates in the future. Yield-curve inversions have appeared before several US recessions, which is why investors watch them closely. The signal does not provide an exact date, and different parts of the curve may invert at different times. It shows how the bond market is pricing future conditions.

Investment fund

A pool of money managed by an investment company that is used to purchase a diverse portfolio of products.

Investment Funds

An investment fund pools money from many investors and places it into a portfolio. The holdings may include shares, bonds, property, commodities, or other funds. Investors own units or shares representing part of the pool. Mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, and closed-end funds all use this basic structure, although they are bought and sold differently. Funds can provide diversification and professional management without requiring each person to select every investment alone. Their results still depend on the assets held, and management fees reduce the return received by investors.

Investment grade

A rating given to bonds that are considered to be of low risk and high quality by credit rating agencies.
