Daily Fundamental Analysis | US stock indices rise ahead of FOMC meeting

Wall Street closed higher on Tuesday, led by technology and semiconductor stocks after Broadcom announced $63 billion in financing to supply chips and networking equipment to Anthropic. Broadcom gained 4%, while AMD rose 5.5%, lifting the Nasdaq Composite by 1.2%.

In early trading today, US stock futures were mixed as investors awaited the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision and earnings reports from major technology companies. Nasdaq-100 futures rose 0.5%, while S&P 500 futures edged higher and Dow futures fell 0.2%.

The Fed is widely expected to keep rates unchanged at 3.75%–4%, but investors will watch for signals about future rate hikes. Attention will then shift to Alphabet and Microsoft earnings.

In Asia, South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix reported record quarterly revenue and operating profit on Wednesday, beating market expectations as strong demand for AI-related memory chips boosted performance. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.7%, while the Topix gained 0.3%. South Korea’s Kospi advanced 2%.

Gold prices fell 0.3% to around $4,050 per ounce on Wednesday as rising oil prices, a stronger US dollar, and higher Treasury yields weighed on the precious metal ahead of the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision.

Oil rebounded nearly 1% toward $100.50 per barrel following reports of strike on Saudi Arabia’s largest oil refinery, reviving concerns about energy supply disruptions and renewed inflationary pressures.
