
Oil prices continue to climb as escalating US-Iran tensions raised concerns over further disruptions to global energy supplies. Brent crude rose 1% to $95.55 per barrel, while WTI gained 0.65% to $90.88.
In the U.S. market, stocks fell for a third consecutive session as surging Treasury yields and higher oil prices weighed on sentiment. The Dow dropped more than 400 points, while the Nasdaq fell around 1%, with technology stocks leading the decline. At the same time, the 10-year Treasury yield reached its highest level since early 2025, increasing borrowing costs and putting pressure on equity valuations.
Asian markets also weakened sharply, with Japan’s Nikkei falling 2.8% and South Korea’s Kospi dropping 3.6%.
In Australia, recent data showed the economy grew 2.1% year-on-year in Q2, beating expectations of 1.8%, although household spending remained subdued amid high fuel prices and weaker travel demand.
Gold remains under heavy pressure as surging U.S. Treasury yields and rising oil prices strengthen the case for tighter Fed policy. Markets are now pricing around a 67% probability of a Fed rate hike in September, partly following Kevin Warsh’s hawkish Jackson Hole speech,
In the crypto market, Bitcoin and Ethereum pulled back as renewed U.S.-Iran tensions pushed oil prices higher, reigniting inflation concerns and reducing investor appetite for riskier assets. Despite the short-term weakness, Bitcoin and Ethereum remain in a broader bullish trend, having gained more than 25% over the past two weeks and broken above key resistance levels.
Markets now turn to August ADP employment data, with expectations for 48,000 new private-sector jobs, as investors look for further clues about the Fed’s September decision.
