
Stock futures held steady early Tuesday following S&P 500 and Nasdaq record highs despite the threat of tariffs. Dow Jones futures rose 0.1%, while S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures dipped slightly.
Monday saw the S&P 500 and Nasdaq reaching record highs helped by Alphabet’s pre-earnings jump. The Dow finished slightly lower. S&P 500 gained 0.14% surpassing 6,300 on despite tensions between the Trump administration and the Fed, and heavy tariff use. Nasdaq rose 0.38% to 20,974.17, while the Dow dipped 0.04% to 44,323.07
Earnings season ramps up with over 60 S&P companies already reporting, 85% exceeding estimates . Investors focus on company insights about economic conditions, tariff impacts, and AI-related spending. Traders await Fed Chair Powell’s comments at a Washington event Tuesday morning.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Monday that high tariffs starting August 1 will put more pressure on those countries to come with better agreements. Investors remain uncertain whether Trump will implement or again postpone these tariffs.
Asia-Pacific markets mixed Tuesday, with Japanese stocks higher after the ruling coalition’s weekend electoral defeat. The Nikkei gained 1.12% to 40,254, while the Topix rose 0.96% to 2,861
In the commodity market, gold and silver rose on Monday as the US dollar weakened. Gold prices went up 1.4% breaking above $3,400 for the first time in a month. Silver gained 2.1% in yesterday’s trading, breaking above the psychological level $39 again before correcting downward.
In the Forex market, the US dollar fell across the board against major currencies. USDJPY dropped almost 1% to 147.38. USDCHF was down 0.5% to 0.7979. While EURUSD went up 0.6%, breaking above 1.1700 level. GBPUSD jumped 0.63% to 1.3490
Bitcoin is still trading near its all-time highs, but failing to break above. The cryptocurrencies fell 0.8% on Monday below $117,000. Ether broke the $3,800 level yesterday before dropping slightly this morning as it is trading around $3,700.
