Trading Glossary
Glossary trade refers to a type of trading strategy where traders use a predefined set of terms, definitions, or concepts to make informed decisions. It often involves industry-specific jargon, financial metrics, and analytical tools to navigate markets effectively.
All
Support and resistance
Key price points that provide indications for an asset’s future price movements.
Swap rates
The exchange of a series of fixed or floating interest rate payments over a specific duration.
Swing trading
A trading strategy that involves holding positions for several days to several weeks in order to capture larger price movements.
Taiwan New Dollar (TWD)
Taiwan’s currency keeps the word “New” in its name even though it was introduced in 1949. The New Taiwan dollar uses the code TWD and is often written as NT$. The Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) issues its banknotes and coins, which are the legal tender used for payments in Taiwan. Prices are normally written in whole dollars, such as NT$500 or NT$1,000. The code TWD is preferred in international trading and bank records because the $ symbol is shared by many currencies. The name also distinguishes it from the older Taiwan dollar that it replaced.
Tajikistan Somoni (TJS)
The somoni became Tajikistan’s national currency on 30 October 2000. Its code is TJS, and one somoni is divided into 100 dirams. The name honours Ismail Somoni, a historical ruler whose image also appears on some banknotes. It replaced the Tajik ruble and gave the country a currency linked to its own national identity. The National Bank of Tajikistan issues the notes and coins and publishes official exchange rates. In English, “somoni” is used for both the currency name and its units, so an amount may be written as 50 somoni rather than 50 somonis.
Take profit (T/P)
A take-profit order tells the platform to close a position once the market reaches a chosen profitable price. A trader who buys at $50 may place T/P at $55. If the market reaches that level, the platform sends an order to close the trade. For a sell position, the target would normally be below the opening price. The instruction removes the need to watch the market continuously, but the exact closing price can differ during gaps or very fast movement. Take profit locks in a gain only after the position is successfully closed.
