Trade Barriers

Trade barriers are government measures that make international buying or selling harder or more expensive. Tariffs are one example, but the category is wider. Import quotas, product bans, licensing rules, local-content requirements, and lengthy customs procedures can also restrict trade. Some rules protect health, safety, or the environment, while others are designed to favour local producers. A product may face no import tax but still be difficult to sell because it must complete costly testing or approval. The effect depends on how the measure is designed and applied. “Trade barrier” therefore describes both direct charges and non-tax obstacles.

Trade confirmation

After a broker completes a purchase or sale, the client receives a trade confirmation. This record normally shows the asset, quantity, execution price, transaction date, settlement details, and any commission or fees. It may also state whether the broker acted as an agent for the client or as the other side of the trade. The confirmation is not simply a receipt to be ignored. It should be checked against the original instruction. A wrong quantity, unexpected fee, or unfamiliar trade should be reported promptly. Account statements show the wider portfolio, while confirmations provide the details of individual transactions.

Trade size

Trade size answers a simple question: how much is being bought or sold? It may be shown as shares, contracts, currency units, or lots, depending on the market. Buying 200 shares gives a trade size of 200 shares. In forex, one standard lot is commonly equal to 100,000 units of the base currency, although smaller lot sizes are available. Trade size affects how strongly a price movement changes the position’s profit or loss. A one-dollar move has a much larger financial effect on 1,000 shares than on ten. The term describes quantity, not the amount of risk by itself.

Trade War

A trade dispute becomes a trade war when countries repeatedly answer one another with tariffs, restrictions, or other barriers. One government may tax imported steel, leading the other to place duties on agricultural goods. The measures can then spread to more products or countries. Businesses may face higher input costs and uncertainty about where to produce or sell. Some local industries may receive protection, while exporters affected by retaliation may lose demand. The term “war” is economic language and does not mean military conflict. There is no official threshold at which a disagreement becomes a trade war. It describes an escalating cycle of restrictive actions.

TradFi

TradFi is short for traditional finance. It covers the established financial system built around banks, brokers, stock exchanges, insurers, investment funds, payment companies, and regulated markets. The term became common in crypto discussions as a contrast with decentralised finance, or DeFi. A share purchase through a licensed exchange and broker belongs to TradFi. A token swap carried out through an automated blockchain protocol may fall under DeFi. The dividing line is not always clean because traditional institutions now use blockchain technology and crypto firms often rely on banks. TradFi describes the structure of the system, not whether a product is modern or old-fashioned.

Trading bid

When dealers say a currency pair is “trading bid,” they mean buyers remain active and the pair is holding firm or moving higher. New bids keep appearing when sellers try to push the price down. This is market slang rather than a formal indicator. EUR/USD might be described as trading bid after a weak fall is quickly met by buying orders. The phrase does not identify one exact price and does not mean the market will continue rising. It describes the tone of current order flow, particularly the visible or reported willingness of participants to buy.
